Bio

New Order formed in Manchester in 1980 from the remaining members of Joy Division after the death of vocalist Ian Curtis. The band—Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris, and later Gillian Gilbert—shifted from post-punk roots toward electronic and dance-oriented sounds, helping define the Madchester scene. Their 1983 single "Blue Monday" became one of the best-selling 12-inch records ever and showcased their fusion of synth-pop hooks with club rhythms. Subsequent albums such as Power, Corruption & Lies, Low-Life, and Technique further established their influence on alternative dance and electronic music. New Order have continued to record and tour into the 21st century, releasing albums like Waiting for the Sirens' Call and Music Complete while maintaining a global fanbase.
