Bio
Ustad Sultan Khan (1940–2011) was an Indian sarangi player and vocalist from Rajasthan, widely regarded as one of the foremost exponents of the instrument in the twentieth century. Born into a family of musicians, he trained under his father, Ustad Gulab Khan, and became known for his command of both classical and semi-classical forms such as khyal, thumri, and ghazal. Khan performed extensively in India and abroad, collaborating with leading classical artists and contributing to numerous film soundtracks. His expressive playing and soulful voice helped bring the sarangi to wider audiences, and he received several national honors for his contributions to Hindustani music.
