Bio
Joshua Redman (born February 1, 1969) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist and composer. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. Redman rose to prominence in the early 1990s with a series of acclaimed recordings for Warner Bros. Records, establishing himself as one of the leading voices in contemporary jazz. Known for his warm tone and lyrical approach, Redman has collaborated with artists across genres, including Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, and classical ensembles. He has released over a dozen albums as a leader, ranging from straight-ahead jazz to more experimental and collaborative projects. In addition to his performing career, Redman has served as artistic director of the SFJAZZ Collective and continues to be an influential figure in modern jazz education and performance.
