Bio
José Alfredo Jiménez (1926–1973) was a Mexican singer-songwriter whose work helped define the golden age of ranchera and mariachi music. Born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, he composed more than 300 songs, many of which became enduring standards across Latin America. His lyrics often explored themes of love, heartbreak, and rural life, delivered in a direct, heartfelt style that resonated with working-class audiences. Jiménez recorded for major Mexican labels and performed extensively throughout Mexico and the United States. His compositions, such as “El Rey,” “Ella,” and “La Media Vuelta,” have been covered by countless artists and remain staples of the mariachi repertoire. He is remembered as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Mexican popular music.
