Ingrid Michaelson is an American singer-songwriter born on December 8, 1979, in Staten Island, New York. She first gained widespread recognition in the mid-2000s with her independently released album "Girls and Boys," which featured the single "The Way I Am." Her music is characterized by intimate, piano-driven arrangements and emotionally direct songwriting. Over the following decade, Michaelson released a string of successful albums including "Be OK," "Human Again," and "It Doesn't Have to Make Sense," several of which reached the upper regions of the Billboard 200. She has also contributed original songs to numerous television shows and films, and her compositions have been covered by other artists across multiple genres.
