Bio
Bappi Lahiri (1952–2022) was an Indian singer, composer and music director who became one of the most recognizable figures in Bollywood during the 1980s. Born in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal, he was known for his flamboyant style and for popularizing the use of synthesizers and disco beats in Hindi film music. His soundtracks for films such as Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal and Wardat produced numerous hit songs that remain staples of Indian pop culture. In addition to his work in Hindi cinema, Lahiri composed for Bengali and other regional-language films, earning him a lasting place in the history of Indian film music.
