Shannon (born Brenda Shannon Greene, May 2, 1958) is an American dance and freestyle singer best known for her 1983 hit "Let the Music Play," which helped define the post-disco and early freestyle sound. Born in Washington, D.C., she rose to prominence in the early 1980s with a string of dance singles that combined electronic production with R&B vocals. Her debut album, also titled Let the Music Play, reached the Billboard R&B chart and established her as a key figure in the emerging freestyle genre. Subsequent releases such as "Give Me Tonight" and "Do You Wanna Get Away" continued her success on dance charts throughout the decade. Shannon's work remains influential in dance music circles, and she continues to perform and release music, maintaining an official website and active presence on major streaming platforms.
