Shannon (born Brenda Shannon Greene, May 2, 1958) is an American dance and freestyle singer best known for her 1983 hit "Let the Music Play," which helped define the post-disco and early freestyle sound. Born in Washington, D.C., she rose to prominence in the early 1980s with a string of dance singles that combined electronic production with R&B vocals. Her debut album, also titled Let the Music Play, reached the Billboard R&B chart and established her as a key figure in the emerging freestyle genre.
