Garnet Silk was a Jamaican reggae singer and musician born in Mandeville, Jamaica, in 1966. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s with his distinctive voice and spiritually themed lyrics, becoming one of the leading figures in the roots reggae revival. His debut album "It's Growing" (1992) and subsequent releases like "Music Is the Rod" established him as a major artist in the dancehall and reggae scenes. Silk's career was cut short when he died in a house fire in December 1994 at the age of 28. Despite his brief time in the spotlight, he left behind a significant body of work that continues to influence reggae music, with his songs remaining popular among fans of roots reggae and lovers rock.
