Bio

DJ Marlboro is a pioneering Brazilian DJ and producer widely credited with shaping the early sound of funk carioca in Rio de Janeiro. He began mixing imported Miami bass and freestyle records at local bailes in the late 1980s, layering Portuguese vocals and Brazilian rhythms over heavy 808 beats. His 1989 track “Melô da Mulher Feia” is often cited as one of the first funk carioca hits, helping to popularize the genre across Brazil. Marlboro’s productions and mixtapes laid the groundwork for the funk carioca and funk melody styles that continue to influence Brazilian dance music today.
