Laura Marling is an English singer-songwriter born in Eversley, Hampshire, in 1990. She first gained attention in the late 2000s London folk scene and released her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim in 2008. Over the following decade she issued a series of critically acclaimed albums, including I Speak Because I Can (2010) and Once I Was an Eagle (2013), that established her as one of Britain’s leading contemporary folk voices. Known for her finger-style guitar playing and introspective songwriting, Marling’s work often explores themes of love, loss, and personal transformation. She has collaborated with artists such as Charlie Fink of Noah and the Whale and Mike Lindsay of Tunng, and she has occasionally performed under the name LUMP with the latter. Her recordings blend traditional folk instrumentation with modern production, and she continues to release new music while maintaining a reputation for thoughtful, literate songcraft.
