Arturo Sandoval is a Cuban-American jazz trumpeter, pianist, and composer born in Artemisa, Cuba, in 1949. He rose to prominence as a member of the Cuban supergroup Irakere before defecting to the United States in 1990, where he has since built a distinguished career blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with bebop and big-band traditions. Sandoval has collaborated with jazz icons such as Dizzy Gillespie, with whom he toured extensively, and has released numerous acclaimed albums showcasing his virtuosic trumpet technique and compositional range. His work spans Latin jazz, straight-ahead jazz, and orchestral projects, earning him multiple Grammy Awards and widespread recognition as one of the leading figures in contemporary Latin jazz.
