Bio

Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk group formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1973. The trio—keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami, bassist Alex Malheiros, and drummer Ivan Conti—blended jazz, samba, and funk into a distinctive sound that became known as “samba doido” (crazy samba). Over five decades the band has released more than twenty studio albums, collaborated with artists such as Marcos Valle and Leon Ware, and influenced later generations of acid-jazz and nu-jazz musicians worldwide.
