Roots Radics is a Jamaican reggae ensemble formed in 1978 that became one of the island’s most influential session bands. Emerging from the same Kingston studio scene that produced Sly & Robbie, the group quickly established itself as the house rhythm section for producers such as Linval Thompson and Henry “Junjo” Lawes. Their tight, bass-heavy grooves powered countless dub and dancehall classics of the early 1980s, including albums by Barrington Levy, Eek-A-Mouse, and Johnny Osbourne. The band’s signature sound—marked by deep sub-bass, crisp drum patterns, and atmospheric echo—helped define the transition from roots reggae to the digital era while remaining rooted in live instrumentation.
