Jimmy Riley

Jimmy Riley (1954–2016) was a Jamaican reggae singer and songwriter whose career spanned the rocksteady era through the roots and lovers rock periods. Born in Kingston, he first gained attention as a member of the vocal trio The Sensations before launching a solo career that produced hits such as “Love and Devotion” and “Woman of My Own.” Riley’s smooth tenor and knack for romantic, socially conscious material made him a staple of Jamaican sound systems and international reggae playlists. Beyond performing, Riley contributed to the music as a producer and songwriter, working with artists including Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs. His later recordings often blended classic roots reggae with contemporary production, and he remained active until his death in New York in 2016.
