Bio

Monty Alexander is a Jamaican-born jazz pianist and composer. Born in Kingston in 1944, he began playing piano at age four and was performing professionally by his early teens. After moving to Miami in 1961, he quickly gained recognition on the U.S. jazz scene, later settling in New York where he worked with artists such as Milt Jackson, Ray Brown, and Frank Sinatra. Alexander is known for blending traditional jazz with Caribbean rhythms and reggae influences, creating a distinctive style that reflects his Jamaican roots. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he has released numerous albums as a leader and appeared on countless sessions, earning acclaim for both his technical skill and expressive playing.
