Sugar Minott

Sugar Minott (1956–2010) was a Jamaican singer, producer, and sound-system operator who helped shape the lovers rock style in the late 1970s. Born Lincoln Barrington Minott in Kingston, he began his career as a youth singer with the African Brothers before launching his own Black Roots label and Youth Promotion sound system, giving early exposure to many future reggae stars. Over a four-decade career he recorded dozens of albums and singles that blended roots reggae, dub, and dancehall, scoring hits such as “Good Thing Going” and “Herbman Hustling.” Minott also produced landmark sessions for other artists and remained an influential figure in Jamaica’s music community until his death in 2010.
