Rick Wakeman is an English keyboardist, composer, and songwriter best known for his work with the progressive rock band Yes. Born in Perivale, London in 1949, he rose to prominence in the early 1970s through his virtuosic playing and elaborate stage setups featuring multiple synthesizers and organs. Beyond Yes, Wakeman has maintained a prolific solo career, releasing numerous concept albums often inspired by literature, history, and mythology. His landmark works include "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" and "Journey to the Centre of the Earth," which showcased his signature blend of classical influences with rock instrumentation. Throughout his career, Wakeman has also worked extensively as a session musician and composer for film and television, contributing to soundtracks and collaborating with artists across multiple genres while maintaining his reputation as one of progressive rock's most distinctive keyboard players.
