Flying Lotus is an American electronic musician and producer born Steven Ellison on October 7, 1983, in Los Angeles. He is known for his work in experimental hip hop, glitch, IDM, and nu jazz, releasing albums on his Brainfeeder label since 2006. His music blends hip-hop beats with electronic textures and jazz influences, drawing from his background as the great-nephew of Alice Coltrane.
