Bio
The Very Best is a collaborative project formed in 2008 by British DJ and producer Johan Hugo and Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya. The duo gained recognition for blending Malawian pop traditions with electronic and dance music, creating a distinctive afropop sound that incorporates elements of house, hip-hop, and indie rock. Their debut album "Warm Heart of Africa" (2009) featured collaborations with artists including M.I.A. and Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, establishing their reputation for cross-cultural musical fusion. The project has continued to release music that bridges African and Western musical traditions, with Mwamwaya's vocals often paired with Hugo's production work.
