Bio
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895–1968) was an Italian composer whose output spans chamber music, concertos, operas, and a large body of guitar works that helped establish the instrument in the classical repertoire. Born in Florence, he studied with Ildebrando Pizzetti and absorbed the impressionist influences of Debussy and Ravel while retaining a distinct Italian lyricism. After emigrating to the United States in 1939, he settled in Beverly Hills and composed numerous film scores alongside concert pieces, including two guitar concertos written for Andrés Segovia. His catalogue is noted for its melodic clarity, refined orchestration, and the fusion of Mediterranean warmth with twentieth-century harmonic language.
