Frederick Delius

Frederick Delius (1862–1934) was an English composer whose music blends late-Romantic harmony with Impressionist color. Born in Bradford, he spent formative years in Florida and Paris before settling in Grez-sur-Loing, France, where he composed most of his mature works. His catalogue includes orchestral tone poems such as Brigg Fair and On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring, the opera A Village Romeo and Juliet, and numerous songs. Although his music gained little recognition during his lifetime, a 1929 London festival organized by Sir Thomas Beecham revived interest, securing his place in the English repertoire.
