Bio

Philippe Jaroussky is a French countertenor born in Maisons-Laffitte in 1978. He studied violin and piano before focusing on voice at the Conservatoire de Paris and quickly became one of the leading figures in the Baroque revival. Jaroussky is known for his pure, agile tone and extensive discography of Vivaldi, Handel, and lesser-known 17th- and 18th-century repertoire. He has recorded for Virgin Classics and Erato, collaborating with ensembles such as Le Concert d’Astrée, Les Arts Florissants, and Ensemble Matheus. In addition to opera and oratorio, he performs French mélodie and contemporary works, and founded the ensemble Artaserse. He is a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur.
