Bio

Chalino Sánchez was a pioneering Mexican singer-songwriter who helped popularize the narcocorrido genre. Born in Sinaloa, he rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with raw, storytelling ballads that chronicled the lives of drug traffickers, outlaws, and rural life. His distinctive nasal voice and autobiographical lyrics made him a cult figure in regional Mexican music. Sánchez was murdered in 1992 at age 31, an event that only increased his legendary status. His recordings, often self-produced and distributed on cassette, laid the groundwork for the modern corrido movement and influenced countless artists in banda, norteño, and regional Mexican music.
