MC Lyte is an American rapper and songwriter born Lana Michele Moorer on October 11, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York. She emerged in the late 1980s as one of the first prominent female voices in hip hop, releasing her debut album Lyte as a Rock in 1988 at age 17. Known for her sharp lyricism and socially conscious themes, she helped pave the way for future generations of women in rap. Over a career spanning more than three decades, MC Lyte has released multiple albums and singles, earning critical acclaim and several Grammy nominations. She remains active as a performer, speaker, and advocate for women in music, continuing to influence both hip hop culture and the broader entertainment industry.
