Bio
Village People is an American disco group formed in New York City in 1977. The ensemble is known for its flamboyant costumes representing American male archetypes and for hits such as "Y.M.C.A.", "In the Navy", and "Macho Man". Created by producer Jacques Morali and singer Victor Willis, the act quickly became a defining presence in late-1970s dance music. Their music and image helped bring disco into mainstream pop culture while also resonating strongly with LGBTQ+ audiences. Although line-ups have changed over the decades, the group has continued to perform and record, maintaining a lasting legacy through frequent media placements and cultural references.
