Bio

LaBelle was an American female vocal group formed in Philadelphia in 1970. Originally known as the Ordettes and later Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles, the group consisted of Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash, and Cindy Birdsong. They achieved international success with their 1974 hit "Lady Marmalade," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became a disco classic. The group was known for their energetic performances and fusion of soul, funk, and rock elements. After Birdsong left to join the Supremes in 1970, the remaining trio continued as LaBelle and released several albums on Epic Records. They disbanded in 1976, with each member pursuing solo careers. LaBelle's influence on music and fashion helped pave the way for future female groups in the disco and R&B genres.
