Bio
Armando Manzanero (1935–2020) was a Mexican composer, pianist and singer whose work defined the modern bolero. Born in Mérida, Yucatán, he began his career in the late 1950s and went on to write more than four hundred songs, many of which became Latin-American standards. Among his best-known compositions are “Adoro,” “Esta Tarde Vi Llover” and “Somos Novios,” the latter adapted by Perry Como as “It’s Impossible.” Manzanero recorded more than thirty albums as a vocalist and collaborated with nearly every major Latin artist of his era. He remained active into his eighties, touring and mentoring younger musicians until his death in Mérida in December 2020.
