Gene Autry

Bio

Gene Autry (1907–1998) was an American singer, songwriter, actor, and broadcaster who became one of the most iconic figures of early country and western music. Known as “The Singing Cowboy,” he starred in nearly 100 films and recorded more than 600 songs, including the holiday standard “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Beyond entertainment, Autry was a shrewd businessman who owned radio and television stations, the California Angels baseball team, and the Melody Ranch studio. His influence helped shape the image of the singing cowboy in American popular culture and earned him a permanent place in both the Country Music and National Cowboy Halls of Fame.
