Bio
Rachel Portman is an English composer best known for her film scores. Born in Haslemere in 1960, she studied music at Oxford University and began scoring for television and film in the 1980s. Her notable works include the scores for "The Cider House Rules," "Emma," and "Chocolat," the first of which earned her an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Portman has composed for both independent and mainstream productions, often blending orchestral and chamber textures. She continues to work in film, television, and concert music, and maintains an official site at rachelportman.co.uk.
