Mark Lanegan (1964–2022) was an American singer-songwriter from Ellensburg, Washington, whose gravelly baritone and brooding lyricism defined his work across grunge and southern gothic. He first gained prominence as the frontman of Screaming Trees before establishing a prolific solo career that spanned more than three decades. Lanegan’s solo albums, including Whiskey for the Holy Ghost and Bubblegum, blended dark Americana, blues, and alternative rock, earning him a reputation as one of the most distinctive voices of his generation. He also collaborated extensively with artists such as Queens of the Stone Age, Isobel Campbell, and Soulsavers, further cementing his influence in both rock and alternative music scenes.
