Bio
Sahir Ludhianvi (1921–1980) was an Indian Urdu poet and lyricist whose work shaped the golden era of Hindi film music. Born in Ludhiana, Punjab, he moved to Lahore and later to Bombay, where his socially conscious poetry found a wide audience through cinema. His lyrics for films such as Pyaasa, Naya Daur and Kabhi Kabhie combined romantic longing with sharp social commentary, earning him lasting acclaim among listeners and fellow writers. Sahir’s economical, colloquial style set new standards for film songwriting in post-independence India.
