The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979. Emerging from the late-1970s punk scene, the group—originally consisting of Paul Westerberg, Bob Stinson, Tommy Stinson, and Chris Mars—became known for their raw, energetic sound and Westerberg’s candid, emotionally direct songwriting. Over the course of their twelve-year career, the band released several influential albums, including Let It Be (1984) and Tim (1985), that helped bridge the gap between punk and mainstream rock. Their music combined elements of jangle pop and power pop with a distinctive lo-fi aesthetic, earning them a devoted cult following and critical acclaim. The Replacements disbanded in 1991 after the release of All Shook Down. Despite limited commercial success during their active years, their influence on subsequent generations of alternative and indie-rock artists remains significant.
