Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (1948–1997) was a Pakistani singer and qawwali master whose powerful voice brought Sufi devotional music to international audiences. Born in Faisalabad, he inherited a centuries-old musical lineage and became the leading exponent of qawwali in the late twentieth century. Khan’s recordings and extensive concert tours in Europe, North America, and Asia introduced ghazal and qawwali to listeners far beyond South Asia. Collaborations with Western artists such as Peter Gabriel further broadened the global reach of traditional Sufi music while preserving its spiritual essence.
