Bio
Lou Reed (1942–2013) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist helped shape the sound of art rock, glam rock, and proto-punk. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he gained early recognition for his raw, literate songwriting and distinctive vocal style. After leaving the Velvet Underground in 1970, Reed launched a solo career that produced landmark albums such as Transformer (1972) and Berlin (1973). His music often explored themes of urban life, addiction, and outsider culture, influencing generations of musicians across rock, punk, and alternative genres.
