Moacir Santos (1924–2006) was a Brazilian composer, multi-instrumentalist, and music educator whose work helped shape the sound of bossa nova and Brazilian jazz. Born in Pernambuco, he moved to Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s, where he played saxophone and arranged for major radio orchestras while developing a distinctive harmonic language that blended jazz with Brazilian rhythms. After relocating to the United States in the late 1960s, Santos released influential albums such as "Ouro Negro" and "Saudades," featuring collaborations with jazz luminaries and showcasing his original compositions. His teaching and arranging work in Los Angeles further spread Brazilian musical concepts among American musicians, securing his reputation as a bridge between Latin and jazz traditions.
