Mott the Hoople were an English rock band formed in Hereford in 1969. They began as a hard-rocking pub band and gained a cult following with their first four albums, which mixed blues, folk, and proto-punk influences. Their breakthrough came in 1972 when David Bowie produced their fifth album, All the Young Dudes, and wrote the hit title track that became their signature song. After the success of All the Young Dudes, the group embraced glam rock and released further hits such as "Mommy’s Little Soldier" and "The Golden Age of Rock ’n’ Roll." Internal tensions led to the departure of lead singer Ian Hunter in 1974, effectively ending the original line-up. The band briefly reunited in 2009 for a series of acclaimed concerts in London.
