Bio

The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip hop group formed in Englewood, New Jersey in 1979. The group is best known for their 1979 single "Rapper's Delight," which is widely regarded as the first commercially successful hip hop song and helped introduce the genre to mainstream audiences worldwide. Composed of Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Master Gee, the trio recorded for Sugar Hill Records and became pioneers of the old school hip hop era. Their work combined funk influences with spoken-word rapping, establishing foundational elements of hip hop music and culture that influenced countless artists in subsequent decades.
