Dennis Alcapone

Dennis Alcapone (born 6 August 1947) is a Jamaican reggae and dub deejay who rose to prominence in the early 1970s. He began his career working with producer Keith Hudson and quickly became known for his rapid-fire toasting style over rocksteady and roots reggae rhythms. Throughout the 1970s he recorded for many of Jamaica’s leading producers, including Duke Reid, Bunny Lee, and Joe Gibbs, releasing hits such as “Teach the Children” and “Ripe Cherry.” His work helped popularize the deejay style that would later influence dancehall and rap. Alcapone has remained active into later decades, touring internationally and reissuing classic material, cementing his reputation as one of reggae’s foundational microphone talents.
