About
Average White Band is a Scottish funk and R&B band formed in Dundee in 1972. After relocating to London and then the United States, they achieved international success with their 1974 instrumental hit "Pick Up the Pieces," which topped the Billboard Hot 100. The group blended soul, funk, and jazz influences, releasing a string of acclaimed albums on Atlantic Records throughout the 1970s. Core members included Alan Gorrie, Hamish Stuart, and Onnie McIntyre. They continued recording and touring into later decades with evolving line-ups while maintaining a reputation for tight, groove-driven performances.
