Michel Schwalbé was a Polish violinist and pedagogue born in 1919. He studied in Warsaw and later settled in Germany, where he became concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan from 1966 to 1985. Schwalbé performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, championing both classical repertoire and 20th-century works. He taught at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and influenced generations of violinists. His recordings include concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, and Berg.
