About
Giuseppe Verdi was an Italian composer born in 1813 in Le Roncole, near Busseto. He became the dominant figure in 19th-century Italian opera, composing over two dozen operas including Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Aida. His works combined dramatic intensity with memorable melodies and helped shape the national identity during Italy’s unification. Verdi’s late masterpieces Otello and Falstaff demonstrated his evolving harmonic language and psychological depth. He also wrote sacred music, notably the Requiem, and was active in politics, serving briefly in the Italian parliament.
