About
Brook Benton was an American singer and songwriter born in Camden, South Carolina. He rose to prominence in the late 1950s and early 1960s with a smooth baritone voice that blended R&B, pop, and gospel influences. Benton scored major hits including "It's Just a Matter of Time," "Rainy Night in Georgia," and "Hotel Happiness," many of which he co-wrote. He recorded for Mercury Records and later Cotillion, collaborating with artists such as Dinah Washington on the hit "A Rockin' Good Way." His work bridged traditional R&B and mainstream pop during the early soul era.
