Olli Mustonen is a Finnish pianist, conductor and composer born in Helsinki in 1967. He studied piano with Eero Heinonen and composition with Einojuhani Rautavaara at the Sibelius Academy. Mustonen gained international recognition in the late 1980s with recordings for Decca and RCA, including acclaimed performances of Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Beethoven. He has appeared as soloist with major orchestras worldwide and regularly conducts from the keyboard. His compositional output includes piano concertos, chamber works and orchestral pieces that blend neoclassical clarity with Nordic lyricism. Mustonen is noted for his distinctive, rhythmically incisive playing and wide-ranging repertoire that spans Bach to contemporary music.
