About
Foster the People is an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles in 2009. Frontman Mark Foster wrote the breakout single "Pumped Up Kicks" in his former job as a commercial jingle writer; the track became a global hit after the band self-released it in 2010. Their debut album Torches (2011) mixed synth-pop hooks with indie-rock edges and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. Follow-up releases Supermodel (2014) and Sacred Hearts Club (2017) expanded the sound toward psychedelic and electronic textures while retaining melodic pop structures. The group has collaborated with producers including Paul Epworth and Greg Kurstin and maintains an active touring presence.
