Pete Rodríguez

Pete Rodríguez is a Puerto Rican boogaloo musician and bandleader born in 1932. He rose to prominence in New York’s Latin music scene during the 1960s with his orchestra, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, and R&B. His 1967 single “I Like It Like That” became a defining boogaloo anthem and reached mainstream audiences. Rodríguez recorded several albums for Alegre Records and later worked as a music educator and band director. His sound helped shape the New York Latin-soul movement that influenced salsa and later Latin dance styles.
