About

Jacob van Eyck (c. 1590–1657) was a Dutch nobleman, carillonneur, and composer based in Utrecht. He served as director of the city carillons and is best known for his monumental collection Der Fluyten Lust-hof, containing over 140 sets of variations for solo recorder. His work represents one of the largest surviving bodies of 17th-century music for a single instrument and remains central to the recorder repertoire. Van Eyck drew on popular tunes, psalms, and dance forms, transforming them through intricate divisions and ornamentation. Though active in the Dutch Golden Age, his music bridges Renaissance and early Baroque styles.
