Dinah Washington

Dinah Washington was an American singer and pianist born Ruth Lee Jones in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1924. She rose to prominence in the 1940s Chicago jazz scene, becoming one of the most versatile and influential vocalists of the mid-20th century. Washington excelled across jazz, blues, R&B, and pop, scoring major hits like "What a Diff'rence a Day Makes!" and "This Bitter Earth." Known for her powerful voice and emotional delivery, she recorded for Mercury Records and collaborated with artists including Clifford Brown and Quincy Jones. She won a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
