About

The Dream Academy was a British band formed in London in 1983 by singer/guitarist Nick Laird-Clowes, multi-instrumentalist Kate St John, and keyboardist Gilbert Gabriel. They gained international recognition with their 1985 self-titled debut album and the single "Life in a Northern Town," which reached the top 10 in the US and UK. The group blended folk, pop, and orchestral elements with distinctive vocal harmonies and baroque instrumentation. Their follow-up album, Remembrance Days (1987), featured the single "The Love Parade." After releasing A Different Kind of Weather in 1990, the band disbanded. Laird-Clowes later contributed to film soundtracks including The Science of Sleep.
