Sir Philip Ledger was a British organist, conductor and composer born in 1937 in Bexhill-on-Sea, England. He served as Master of the Music at Chelmsford Cathedral and later as Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge, where he led the famous Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Ledger founded the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and conducted the Bach Choir, recording extensively for EMI and Argo. His compositions include choral works, carol arrangements and organ pieces that remain in the Anglican repertoire. He was knighted in 1999 for services to music and died in 2020.
