Ryan Lewis is an American producer, multi-instrumentalist, and photographer best known for his long-running creative partnership with rapper Macklemore. Raised in Spokane, Washington, he began producing beats in his teens and self-released early projects before the 2012 breakthrough of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Their independent album The Heist spawned global hits “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us,” both reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Lewis’s production fuses hip-hop, indie, and pop elements with live instrumentation and eclectic sampling. The duo’s follow-up album This Unruly Mess I’ve Made (2016) continued their socially conscious themes. Lewis has also scored films and released solo instrumental work.
